💚  What Makes DYE PTA Special 💚

Daniel Young Elementary may be one of the smallest schools in the district, but we have a big heart—and an even bigger community spirit. We’re a neighborhood school made up of working parents, grandparents, teachers, and families, and we all want to be part of making our school a great place for our kids.

PTA is how we pool our time, talents, and energy to make things happen without expecting any one person to do it all - we're building and strengthening our community!

🐬 Events and Programs 🐬

Keeping an eye on our weekly newsletter is the best way to get up-to-date info about everything the PTA is doing and how you can participate. But to give you an idea, here are the things we do each year.

Spring/Fall Parties:

Once in the spring, and once in the fall, PTA plans a seasonal party that each grade level gets to enjoy during their specials time. Parents volunteer to help run activities.

Trunk or Treat:

We host an annual Trunk-or-Treat and invite the whole neighborhood. Volunteers decorate trunks and compete for scariest, most creative, and crowd favorite. DYE families donate candy to support this community event.

Gingerbread Shop:

PTA runs a pop-up holiday shop, letting students shop for and wrap inexpensive gifts for their families for the holidays.

Book Fair:

There are two Scholastic Book Fairs at DYE each year. PTA and the library teachers partner to organize and staff these, then split the proceeds from the sales to support both PTA and library programs.

Spring Family Event:

An evening event that welcomes DYE families to spend time together at the school. In recent years, this has been a school carnival. We are brainstorming now for this school year!

Family Hospitality:

After each grade-level musical performance, PTA provides cookies and a photo backdrop so families can stick around for a bit, visit, and celebrate.

Skate Nights:

DYE night at Rink Ratz is a great social event for our school, and a great partnership with one of our local business partners. (This is also a small fundraiser supporting other PTA programs.)

Culver's Nights:

Fundraiser nights at Culver's give students and parents an easy way to participate in PTA fundraising. They're also fun- the whole restaurant fills up with people we know from DYE!

Auction/Raffle:

A major fundraiser; we work with local businesses and crafters to collect donations, then hold a raffle an silent auction during our Spring family event, raising funds and cross-promoting our business partners.

Teacher Grants:

We direct PTA money back into classrooms through teacher grants- teachers submit applications letting us know what they need, and we fund as many as we can each year.

Staff Appreciation:

PTA provides two meals, plus a week of treats and goodies during Teacher Appreciation Week, to show love and appreciation to the teachers and staff at DYE.

Reflections:

We facilitate DYE students' participation in the National PTA Reflections contest, a longstanding arts recognition and achievement initiative for students in pre-K through grade 12

Fun Run:

A traditional fundraiser where kids support DYE by collecting donations leading up to a "fun run" event. Funds raised help to cover the Arts Partners field trip program.

Arts Partners:

A PTA-sponsored field trip series. We pay for every student to go on a field trip every year, using the money we raise during the Fun Run event.

Student of the Month Pizza Party:

DYE selects Student of the Month recipients- PTA covers the cost of the pizza!

5th Grade Celebration:

Each year, PTA resources a committee of 5th-grade parents to plan a celebration field trip for the 5th grade class as they wrap up their time at DYE.

Spirit Wear:

DYE swag! PTA collaborates with DYE staff to design school spirit wear and make it available for all DYE families.

DYE PTA Scholarship:

Awarded each year to one graduating Senior from either BSHS or BSSHS who attended Daniel Young in elementary school.

Special Projects:

We figure this out as we go! In the past, we've funded playground equipment, the outdoor classroom, enhancing the library collection, and even purchased the Finley dolphin mascot suit. *Voting on these ideas is a great part of being a PTA member!*
